Meaningful Membership

1. Are there requirements for being a member at Tar Landing?  

Follow Jesus Christ
Membership begins with a personal relationship with Christ as Lord and Savior.

Be Baptized by Immersion
After conversion, we ask that each member publicly profess their faith through believer’s baptism by immersion.

Affirm Our Beliefs
Members agree with our core beliefs as outlined in our Statement of Faith (Baptist Faith and Message 2000).

Complete the Membership Process
This includes attending the Membership Class, meeting with a pastor, and being affirmed by the church family.

2. What is the membership process at Tar Landing? 

Attend a Membership Class
Offered regularly throughout the year, this class introduces you to who we are, what we believe, and how you can get connected.

Meet with a Pastor
After the class, you’ll sit down with a pastor to share your testimony, ask questions, and learn more about life at Tar Landing.

Be Baptized (if necessary)
If you have not yet been baptized as a believer, we’ll walk with you through this important step of obedience.

Be Affirmed by the Church
Finally, you will be presented before the congregation for a vote of affirmation, officially joining the church family.

3. What is expected of members of Tar Landing?

Gospel – Our Foundation
Live a life centered on the good news of Jesus Christ by treasuring Scripture, holding fast to authentic faith, and proclaiming Christ as Savior and Lord. (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3–6)

Gathering – Our Fellowship
Commit to worship regularly and stay connected through Bible study, prayer, and fellowship with your church family. (Hebrews 10:24–25; Acts 2:42)

Growing – Our Maturity
Pursue Christlikeness through abiding in God’s Word, walking in the Spirit, and encouraging one another toward spiritual growth. (Colossians 2:6–7; 2 Peter 3:18)

Giving – Our Generosity
Give joyfully and sacrificially of your time, talents, and treasures for the building up of the church and the advance of the gospel. (2 Corinthians 9:6–8; Acts 20:35)

Going – Our Mission
Be a witness for Christ by sharing the gospel with neighbors and supporting the mission of God to the nations. (Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 1:8)
